The Time Machine
I was reluctant to go to go out this evening having had a busy and tiring weekend, but the tickets were already bought and so I set off for this short musical of the time machine. It was well worth it.
Firstly, Crazy Coqs is always worth a visit, a blast from the art deco past when you can sit back with delicious nibbles and a very a fine cider. It was all quite a fabulous atmosphere and so well fed and watered I settled back for the show.
What a delightful double act Laurence Owen and Lindsay Sharman were. Lindsey was the most tremendous radio producer who was quite hilarious sometimes showing enthusiasm (especially when it came to eating some juicy wet fruit) and sometimes responding with marvellous indifference. Lindsey being dragged into the show and being forced to play a few parts was quite delightful. Her casual interactions during the play were by far the most comical elements.
Laurence gave a fun and talented performance as he provided a series of wholly enjoyable songs. My personal favourite was the opening number ‘Stuff and Nonsense’ as Laurence sang an entire ensemble of characters from a cab driver to a psychiatrist and then finishing with a Russian Communist. His ability to switch from character to character mid line during the song was most impressive. The rest of the songs while not reaching this height were still a delight to hear.
All in all if you get a chance you really should try and catch this merry musical. Funny banter and witty lyrics combined superbly with a very slick double act. I enjoyed it so much I bought the CD after the show and will enjoy learning few of these witty numbers. I particularly look forward to hearing the full version of ‘Do the Crab (Crabs from the Future)’. We only got a small taster of it in the stage show...
