Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour
Well I love a Scottish accent and this show had 6 of them! Every one of the actresses stood out as a tremendously performer. The singing was just beautiful and the wide array of different covers all done differently was a real treat. We went from rapturously beautiful angelic voices to harsher rock in an instant. It was very well done. The characters talent for blending into the various people they encountered in their journey through Edinburgh was delightful, they made quite convincing men.
And throughout the entire performance we were hit with an endless stream of foul language. This array of filth, combined with the bizarre encounters the girls had. (the upside-down naked man was particularly well staged) just had you roaring with laughter. The situations were so ludicrous and clever joining together. Amazingly throughout the laughter, and the obscenity, quite poignant stories came out. The pregnant school girl with die hard catholic parents, the cancer suffer, the girl with her dad on the dole, all were given the chance to reveal their troubles and suffering to both the audience and their colleagues.
This show is blend of so much I hold dear in theatre; humour, copious amounts of music and song, and beautiful accents. If you want all of this combined with some truly touching emotions you can’t go wrong going to this. Just make sure you have a high threshold for vulgarity.
